Here at Backwoods Designs, attention to detail and quality are our specialties. After your cabinetry plans are finalized with selections and details included, we begin building your cabinets right here in our shop.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR CUSTOM CABINETS:
The lumber we use to build our cabinets comes from trees that are cut from the corner where Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa meet.
We hand select each board and use these to make the faces of the cabinets, the doors, and drawer fronts. This allows us to keep continuity in coloration and grain patterns flowing across the room and looking unified and sharp.
To make the box of our cabinets, we use ¾” thick plywood. It is made here in the USA and has been finished and UV hardened for extra durability against spills and scratches.
Our drawers and rollouts are constructed of 5/8” thick maple and include dovetail joinery.

We use soft closing hinges and drawer slides that come with a lifetime warranty on all of our cabinetry.
After we cut pieces, sand them, assemble them, and sand everything some more, then we stain everything by hand. After staining, we spray two coats of varnish to seal and protect the wood.
Once every cabinet is complete, we load them all up, deliver them to your home and spend just a few days installing the cabinets, crown molding, and any handles or knobs you have selected.
From cutting the first board, to installing the last handle, the entire process takes about a month.
